Iaido is the art of drawing the sword and instantly striking with it. Training is conducted
using a practice Japanese sword called an Iaito or a live sword known as a katana.
The schools or "ryu" of Iaido practiced at Aikido of London are Muso Shinden Ryu and
Shindo Munen Ryu Tachi Iai. Muso Shinden-ryu is an Iaido koryu or traditional (old) school
and has been passed on to and developed for modern times by Nakayama Hakudo (1869 -
1958). Nakayama was one of the greatest martial artists of the 20th century. He was a master
of Kendo, Iaido, and Jodo.
